preface

The Seventh International Conference on Composite Materials (ICCM-VII) hosted by China Association for Science and technology, Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Chinese Society of Astronautics and Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and co-sponsored by American Society for Composites, American Society of Mechanical Engineering, British Composites Society, European Committee on Composite Materials and Japan Society of Composite Materials, was held in Guangzhou, China, on November 22-24, 1989. This conference was organized by China International Conference Center for Science and Technology, mainly in the respect of registration, visa issuance, accommodation, post-touring and technical exhibition, and Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics, being responsible for organizing technical papers, proceedings publication, technical session arrangement and communication with the paper authors.

The conference organizers have received 526 abstracts from 23 countries and regions. After reviewing by the local organizing committee, more than 300 papers of whole texts are acceppted including those for poster sessions. These papers include coverage of fibers, matrices, hybrids, design and analysis, fabrication and processing, joining machining, adhesion, inspection, mechanical testing, durability, fatigue, creep, damage and fracture, environmental effects, economics and application. The eight plenary addresses highlight the latest advances and practical guidelines on composite materials, fabrication, technology, properties and structure design. It is expected that the papers in the proceedings will foster the understanding of the state-of-art of composite materials developing trends. In addition, it is hoped that the new concept and ideas wiU be generated for the further Innovations.
