World fellows
World Fellow Nomination Package
The World Fellow of ICCM designation is an award given by ICCM to a person who has made significant contributions to the objectives of ICCM as captured in the articulation of these three items:
- Outstanding contribution to the filed of composite materials through research and/or industrial development.
- International recognition and contribution to the work of ICCM
- Other contributions to the field, e.g. through education, contributions to other major conference series, development of standards/design codes, editorial work, etc.
A nominator of an individual for this award is responsible for assembling the information needed to address the contributions with respect to all of these items, and to put into a nomination package what can be useful to the Awards Committee, and ultimately the Executive Council, in consideration of the nominee. This includes the following restrictions on the content of such a package in terms of minimum content:
- There must be a curriculum vitae of the nominee.
- There must be a minimum of two letters of recommendation from current ICCM members (ICCM members is an individual who has participated as a fully registered delegate at an ICCM Conference as defined in the ICCM Constitution and By-Laws).
- One letter of recommendation must be from a member of the ICCM Executive Council or a current World Fellow of ICCM.
- One letter of recommendation must be from an ICCM member who is outside the ICCM World Region of the nominated candidate.
The additional restriction is that the nomination must be submitted by a member of the ICCM Executive Council or a current World Fellow of ICCM. The nominator thus must work with this person in preparation of the package so that the person submitting the package has knowledge and supports its content.
Beyond this, there are no restrictions in regard to the content including the maximum amount of content. The nominator needs to make a judgement as to what helps to make the best package for consideration, both in terms of clear demonstration of the achievements of the nominee with regard to the three items as well as understanding that too many letters of recommendation can cause difficulty in the consideration of a package. For example, it is suggested that one letter of recommendation serve as a clear letter of nomination, and be marked in that regard in introducing the package. It is suggested that this letter of nomination clearly speak to the contributions and characteristics of the nominee with regard to the three articulated items. It is also noted that secondhand observations can be helpful, but firsthand encounters and interactions with the nominee can present stronger information.
